Mercedes-Benz A and B Servicing Explained

Mercedes-Benz uses a specific pattern for their service, referring to the minor service as an ‘A’ service and the more comprehensive service as a ‘B’ service. One of the benefits of this approach is that the system is programmed to send reminders for vehicle servicing, giving you one less thing to think about!

A SERVICE: The A Service is the smaller and more affordable option. Typically, your Mercedes vehicle will require its first A Service at one year old and every 2 years thereafter.

B SERVICE: The B Service is recommended for older Mercedes-Benz vehicles or vehicles that have high mileage. The B Service is more expensive than the A Service, but it offers more coverage. The B Service can be scheduled around one year after an A Service, and typically every 2 years thereafter.

How often should I get my Mercedes serviced?

In general, our recommendation is to follow the instruction from your instrument cluster. Programmed into your instrument cluster is the Mercedes Benz assist system which will calculate when and which service is due, as it monitors the time elapsed, as well as mileage driven between your previous service and upcoming service. Either way it will give you more that enough warning to book your service in without it going overdue. However, the following should be taken into consideration to determine how often your car may need servicing:

  • Warranty period: The validity of your car’s warranty may depend upon servicing and specific intervals, it’s important to read the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Existing problems: Is your Mercedes displaying warnings or experiencing issues ahead of your yearly servicing date? We advise bringing the vehicle in for a service when issues like these arise.
  • Varied mileage:  If your vehicle covers significantly more or fewer miles than the average, it might require more or less frequent servicing. 

How is my Mercedes service recorded?

If your Mercedes is newer that 2008 you will not have a service booklet but in fact a log online of all the services logged to you car. We have full access to this Mercedes Benz service database (DSB) and will continue to keep it updated for you with each visit to us.
